A date with your stamps ...

(adapted from ideas by Project Life and Michelle Wooderson)

How often have we heard the following from our crafting friends.  “I don't have time to craft”, “I don't have any motivation or good ideas”, and “I don't know what supplies to use together when I sit down to craft”.  With some pre-planning, a few simple sketches, and a good selection of supplies from your stash, you'll be well on your way to stamping up a nice pile of cards, or whizzing out layouts in no time.

Firstly, you need to set aside time for crafting. Get your diary out and start making dates for yourself like an appointment. If you are too busy for this, start thinking about small sections of time that you can take for yourself. Skip a couple of hours of TV one night, or step away from the computer, or dare I say it, stay up a little later!  However you do it, you must find a way to make time for your hobbies.

Secondly, make an honest list of projects that YOU want to complete. You might need to make two birthday cards, 3 thank you cards, or you might want to make a couple of extra get well and sympathy cards so that you have them when needed. Update the list regularly. Make yourself a cute little notebook to keep it all organized.

When you have organised your date with yourself, go shopping in your own stash. Gather up products that coordinate and are easy to match.  Stampin Up! makes it so easy to pick out everything that co-ordinates.  I also choose the sentiments that I want to use before I start working, and doing it this way saves me hours of time, as those types of cards were on my list.

Next, you need inspiration to get started. Print off photos, make sketches or borrow ideas from sketch/map sites such as www.pagemaps.com who have sketches for both scrapbooking and cards. However, make sure that you give credit when you borrow someone else’s ideas.

I personally like to use ONE sketch only, and I adapt it by turning the sketch 45 or 90 degrees. I make a selection of different sentiment cards using the same supplies and the same sketch.  This way, I can really whizz out the projects.  PLUS, I use up my supplies.   If there’s any scraps of papers left at the end of the session, then I’ll quickly punch out some birds, hearts, flowers, leaves etc. etc. so that I DON’T WASTE ANYTHING !

Even the tiniest pieces of paper can be chopped up into confetti and used.  If you want a colourful border, then run a stick of really sticky red double sided tape onto the card.  Remove the backing and then press all the mixed coloured confetti onto it.  Shake off the remainder – and voila !  a lovely colourful border – for free !

So – make a date with yourself – and get crafting !!!

Between the Crosses, Row on Row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead, Short Days ago
We lived, Felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
flanders fields
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In FLANDERS FIELDS
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
in Flanders Fields.

Stuck for Christmas Card Ideas ??

... then how about these two cards ?  These cards are quick and easy to make, the first card uses the one sheet wonder technique.

Card 1

Make your 4x4 card bases from 12x12 Crumb Cake card stock (cut one piece 4 x 12 and trim off a 4x4 piece.  Turn card around in the trimmer and cut three 4x8 strips - you now have four 4x8 strips.  Fold and score all the pieces into 4x4 cards).

Using the Serene Snowflakes stamp set, randomly stamp all over your Very Vanilla card stock using Night of Navy, Marina Mist & Crumb Cake ink pads, then trim down your stamped card into four pieces measuring 3 6/8 x 3".

Punch out the border using the new Lace Border punch and Night of Navy card stock.  Then trim down to fit stamped card.  Attach to the stamped card so that only half of the border is showing (as seen in sample), then adhere this layer to the crumb cake card base.  Add a small gold bow or very vanilla bow if preferred.

To finish off, stamp the sentiment from Contempo Christmas to the bottom right hand corner of the card base.

Card 1
 Card 2

Make your 4x4 card bases from 12x12 Crumb Cake card stock (cut one piece 4 x 12 and trim off a 4x4 piece.  Turn card around in the trimmer and cut three 4x8 strips - you now have four 4x8 strips.  Fold and score all the pieces into 4x4 cards).

Using the Serene Snowflakes stamp set, randomly stamp all over your card base stock using Indigo Island, and Marina Mist ink pads.

Stamp the large snowflake onto a spare piece of crumb cake card stock using Indigo Island ink pad, and cut out the snowflake as near to the image as you can.

Stamp the Merry Christmas from the Contempo Christmas stamp set using Night of Navy onto Very Vanilla card stock. Punch out using the large oval punch.  Using the three snowflake stamp and crumb cake ink pad, stamp just off the top edge of the oval.

Adhere the sentiment onto the card, and then adhere the large snowflake using foam pads/dimensionals.  Add ribbon to the top of the card tucking it slightly under the large snowflake (non stampin up ribbon).

Be Prepared ……

Stampin Up! are releasing their Retired List on the 1st September – which means that a lot of the products in the current catalogue (and the mini catalogue) will be retiring, and therefore won’t be available for purchase again. Ever.  The bonus is, that everything retiring will be reduced ! YAY !!!  So, if you are looking for a bargain, looking for a Christmas present OR have a wish list, then the 1st September is the time !  This also means that products will fly out of the door – so you have to be in it, to benefit from it !!

I will be putting in an initial order on the 3rd September, and after that will put in daily orders as I find out what has sold out.  If you want to place any orders, then potage will be £2.50 (an offer from me), but from the 5th September, the postage will be the normal Stampin Up P&P rate of £4.95

I will be sending out an email containing the Retiring List as soon after midnight as is possible, and if you wish to be on the emailing list, then please contact me on carole.bryson@gmail.com or 07799 250981

ALSO !!!!!!!!  Yes, there is more ……….

On 1st October, the NEW Idea Book & Catalogue will be launched – yay !!!  There will be heaps of new products including stamp sets, designer papers, punches, dies and embossing folders for the Big Shot, new embellishments etc.

If you would like to have the new catalogue posted to you on 1st October then please contact me and I will pre-order them ready for posting.  The cost of the catalogue is normally £5.95, but I am offering them for £4.95 including postage.

As at all times, if you have any queries or questions, please contact me.

Don’t forget – a lot of the products used in the above layouts will be retiring !

A Gazillion Thank You’s !!

… to the wonderful crowd of amazing ladies who attended my Yuletide Summer one day retreat yesterday.  We had an amazing time, and from the feedback forms, everybody really enjoyed themselves – albeit that I made too much food –but hey, I’d rather have too much, than not enough – that’s my excuse !! Smile

(I can’t remember where I was rushing off to on this last photograph) !

The day was just perfect, and it wouldn’t have been the success it was without you all.  Thanks also to my amazing team Leanne Weaver, Marlene Johnson and Claire Baldwin – it really wouldn’t have gone as smoothly without you – thank you xxxxxxx

Oh, and remember me saying that “all is not what it seems” when I was talking about all the things that you can do with the fantastic Stampin’ Up! punches – well I will leave you with a photograph of a card that I made using ….. the Christmas Bauble punch !

Once again, very many thanks to everyone !  Will see you soon !
